KAWARTHA LAKES-A piece of red duct tape has shown up on a number of mail boxes in the Fenelon Falls area and Highway 35.
Residents are expressing concern about who put it there and why. “Some think it is to mark mailboxes and if the tape doesn’t get removed then it indicates no one is home and your house gets robbed. Others are saying it marks houses where dogs could be stolen from.” a resident who wanted to remain anonymous, told Kawartha 411. “Another theory was the paper delivery person is marking boxes they don’t deliver to.”
A google search of the issue reveals a number of theories. Some of them seem a little far fetched.
Canada Post says it wasn’t them. “Canada Post has not marked any mailboxes with red duct tape, and we will remove any markings that have been made to our street furniture.” Hayley Magermans, Media Relations, Canada Post said.
Police were contacted on May 24th and began an investigation. An investigation related to the confirmed presence of red tape on three mailboxes on Highway 35 near Rosedale. Investigation has revealed that a local delivery person was using the tape as a method of organizing deliveries.
It’s unclear at this time is the red tape on the mailboxes on Hwy 35 just outside of Fenelon or at Sturgeon Point are related.
