KAWARTHA LAKES-The OPP is kicking off the Victoria Day Long Weekend Traffic Safety Campaign today.
The focus of this initiative are the “Big 4” along with Motorcycle, Off Road Vehicle and All-Terrain Vehicle enforcement. The big four infractions are aggressive driving, alcohol and drug impaired driving, inattentive driving and lack of seat belts.
Marked and discrete profile cruisers equipped with Automated Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) systems will be utilized throughout the campaign. Enforcement actions have been shown to modify driver behaviour in a more immediate manner with a greater long-term retention according to police.
The OPP as a whole will be out in full force to ensure that community members remain safe while enjoying this Victoria Day Long weekend.
