Buckle-up-OPP seatbelt campaign hits the roads this weekend

KAWARTHA LAKES- The OPP is set to conduct a provincial seatbelt campaign that runs through the Easter Long Weekend from April 19, 2019 at 12:00 a.m. to April 22, 2019 at 11:59 p.m.

The Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough County OPP will be highly visible this Easter long weekend focusing on awareness through enforcement and public education by stopping motorists who are not wearing their seatbelts, they will also be looking for other restricted behaviour including distracted driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding and other forms of aggressive driving.

This traffic initiative commences at 12:00 a.m. on Friday April 19, 2019 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday April 22, 2019. The initiative is an effort to change driving behaviour and save lives.

The focus of this initiative will be on seatbelt compliance.

A properly worn seat belt greatly increases your chances of surviving a motor vehicle collision according to Police.

Seatbelt non-compliance draws a fine of $240 ($200 set fine, $35 victim surcharge, and $5 court costs) and includes two demerit points.
