Teen clocked going double the speed limit on Highway 7

KAWARTHA LAKES-A 19 year old from Selwyn Township is facing charges after allegedly being caught on radar driving more than double the speed limit.

Police say on April 13, 2019 officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 7 at Orange Corners Road when a vehicle allegedly travelling at 163km/h in the posted 80 km/h zone was observed.

The vehicle was subsequently stopped and the ensuing investigation resulted in the driver, Hunter King, 19 years of age, of Selwyn Township, being charged with racing a motor vehicle and fail to surrender licence.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on May 7, 2019.

Meanwhile, members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting radar patrol on Highway 115 on the night of April 12, 2019. Shortly after 10:30pm, an officer clocked a vehicle allegedly travelling at 175km/h in a posted 100km/h zone.

Tarang PIPALIYA (age 24) of Peterborough, Ontario was charged with:

  • Stunt driving in relation to excessive speed

His driver’s licence was suspended for seven day and his rental vehicle was impounded.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on June 10, 2019.
