KAWARTHA LAKES-Winterfest at Lindsay Square Mall raised $22,000 to help local kids get the services they need from Five Counties Children’s Centre.
The Winterfest 2018 event was held last week at Lindsay Square Mall. These funds will support the kids who come to Five Counties Children’s Centre in Lindsay for treatment that will change their day-to-day life as well as their quality of life as an adult.
Each November, a local committee pulls together a collection of beautifully decorated trees and displays them at Lindsay Square. For this free family event other seasonal items, live music, games, entertainers and a Kids Zone also occupy the central hallways of the mall the week Santa starts hosting visitors as they share their Christmas wishes.
“The demand for our services increases each year,” explains CEO Diane Pick. “Last year we provided service to 4,084 children, and increased the number of treatment visits to 36,389. We depend on donations from businesses, organizations, and individuals to help local kids with special needs and their families. Early intervention is key to encourage their confidence, independence and inclusion. The impact of this $22,000 provided through Winterfest is we will be able to get children off our waiting list and into the programs and services they need. Thank you to everyone involved from the bottom of our hearts!”
Officials say without donations and support, the specialized programs and services that are making the most difference to the kids and families would not be possible.
