Woman rescued from balcony in fire on Angeline Street

KAWARTHA LAKES-There was a dramatic rescue from a balcony after a fire on Angeline Street this morning.

The call came in at approximately 6:30am. There are unconfirmed reports the fire started in a mattress.  A woman on the the third floor was trapped and had to be rescued from the balcony by firefighters.

As fire crews arrived flames were coming from a window on the third floor. The building was charred on the outside.

No one was injured according to police but there are a couple of apartments that appear to have have extensive damage. The fire department estimates damage to be about $500,000 according to reports.

Witnesses say the residents were evacuated from the building and seven people have been displaced.
