KAWARTHA LAKES-Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain according to Environment Canada.
Severe thunderstorms are possible late this morning and this afternoon as a cold front moves through from the northwest.
The main threats are damaging wind gusts of 100 km/h and torrential downpours giving 25 to 50 mm of rain in under an hour.
“Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.” Environment Canada states.
