Power surge prompts fire call at Kawartha Dairy

KAWARTHA LAKES-What staff describe as a power surge damaged the communications box and blews things off the walls at the Kawartha Dairy plant on Highway 36 Monday night.

It’s unclear exactly what caused the surge just after 5pm but it knocked out power to up to ten thousand homes from Bobcaygeon to Lindsay and Little Britain area. Hydro crews arrived on the scene at about 7:30.

No one was injured at the dairy and there’s no word on the extent of the damages.

Power was restored to most residents by 8pm.
