KAWARTHA LAKES- Kawartha Lakes Police Chief John Hagarty announced his retirement plans this morning.
Chief Hagarty has been at the helm of Kawartha Lakes Police Service for twelve years and has spent 35 years in Policing. The Chief made the announcement at the Police Services Board meeting on Monday. “Retiring after 35 years in policing is probably enough, it’s good for the organization” he said.
Board Chair Sal Polito thanked Chief Hagarty for his service. “Congratulations on an awesome career”
“Thanks John for all of your hard work and all you’ve done for our community.” Councillor and Board Member Pat O’Reilly said. “It’s been an honour and a priviledge” said Hagarty.
There’s no word on an official date for his retirement.
Polito said Hagarty changed the course of the police service and he was pleased with the direction it had taken them. “We made a good choice”
Now they must make the choice of who will replace Hagarty. The board says they will begin the search internally and then move to an external search if required.
