City of Kawartha Lakes police warn of clothing donation scam

The City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service are investigating a possible fraud.

A Lindsay resident reported to police they had received a telephone call from a person seeking donations, claiming to be from the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. The caller attempted to have the complainant provide her home address, and asked the woman to leave a bag of clothing out front of her house to be picked up by a staff member of the MS Society.

An investigation revealed that the MS Society does not canvass for donations of clothing in this manner. ThePolice are urging the public to be cautious when being canvassed for donations. Charitable organizations will have contact numbers available, where the public can confirm the authenticity of people canvassing for donations.

Anyone who may have information in regards to this incident ‎is asked to contact the Kawartha Lakes Police Service at (705) 324-5252, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
