Long-time conservative volunteer in the City of Peterborough, Dave Smith, has declared his intention to seek the Ontario PC Party nomination for Peterborough-Kawartha.
“I’m pleased to enter the nomination contest for Peterborough-Kawartha”, said Smith. “As a resident of this riding, I cannot stand by any longer and allow the destructive policies of the Wynne government to damage our kids’ chance at a brighter future or our seniors’ right to a fulfilling retirement.”
Smith says now that his three kids are all in University it’s time to make the leap. “Now that my kids are moving on to post-secondary education, the time is right for me to step up and offer myself as a candidate” said Smith. “I felt it was important to be involved in their lives as they were growing up and wanted to ensure that my entering politics would not negatively impact their home life”.
Smith moved to Peterborough to attend Trent University in the late 1980’s and say he fell in love with the community. He has been an active community leader, serving on city committees, founding the Under the Lock hockey tournament, and most recently stepping in as Chair of the Special Hockey International event to ensure its success when it was in danger of cancellation.
“I’m a proud supporter of Dave. He is skillfully organized and always accomplishes whatever challenge he sets out to do” said Tony Smith (no relation), former President of the Peterborough Conservative Electoral District Association. “His positive can-do attitude allows Dave to build strong team support to accomplish meaningful goals.”
“With people like Tony on board, I know our team will be an effective voice for the people of this riding”, replied Smith. “It’s time to provide real help for the hard-working citizens of Peterborough-Kawartha”.
Smith is married to Lorien and the couple has three children. He was named the 19th most influential person in Peterborough in 2013 and is a member of the Kinsmen Club of Peterborough. He has a Bachelor of Science in Computing Systems from Trent University and is completing his Masters of Business Administration in Business Analytics Leadership from the University of Fredericton.
