Individuals and small businesses affected by the recent flooding in eastern and central Ontario may be eligible to receive help with expenses according to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
Bill Mauro, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Marie-France Lalonde, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services said “We know that communities across Ontario have been facing difficult circumstances due to varying weather conditions and residual flooding from the spring melt and last week’s heavy rainfall”
After visiting the hardest hit areas the past said they wanted to reassure residents that they re working closely with municipal partners to activate the provinces Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians Program, where it will be needed.
“We want to thank and acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of emergency workers, municipal leaders, volunteers and residents who have been managing the disaster in their local communities across the province, including Minden Hills, Clarington, Prince Edward County, the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte and communities along the Ottawa River.” they said.
The outdated Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program (ODRAP) was replaced with two distinct programs to better meet changing needs in 2015. The Municipal Disaster Recovery Assistance (MDRA) and Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians (DRAO) are the replacements according to the Ministry.
Areas in central and eastern Ontario, including areas along the Ottawa River, Renfrew County and Minden Hills, are now activated under the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians (DRAO) program and additional areas are being assessed.
