Teen girl from Durham brought to Peterborough and forced into prostitution

The Durham Regional Police and the Peterborough Police have rescued a teen girl from the clutches of human traffickers.

Police say the girl, who is under the age of 18, was brought to hotels in Peterborough, Whitby and the GTA to perform sexual acts for money. Investigators with the Gun and Gang Unit and Human Trafficking Unit of the Durham Regional Police, with the assistance of Peterborough Police Service Emergency Response Team, arrested five people in connection to the investigation last week.

Police say one of the males befriended the female victim and introduced her to a male nicknamed ‘Turtle/Uncle’. They convinced her to work in the sex trade and posted an online advertisement for the female’s sexual services.  They rented hotel rooms and the males began to arrange for customers to come to the rooms and engage in sexual activity with the victim in exchange for money.

Upon arrest, ‘Turtle/Uncle’ was allegedly found in possession of 63 grams of cocaine, 21 grams of crack and over $3,500 of currency on his person. Two search warrants were executed in connection to this investigation, one at a residence on Westcreek Drive in Pickering and Talwood Court in Peterborough, which resulted in the seizure of two replica handguns, $ 6,000 in Canadian currency, ammunition and 14 grams of cocaine.

A 27-year-old from Whitby and Terrell OCHRYM, a.k.a. ‘Turtle/Uncle’, age 38 of Westcreek Drive in Pickering are facing a number of charges including obtain Sexual Services for Consideration Under 18; Procuring/Recruit Person Under 18 to Provide Sexual Services; Material Benefit from Sexual Services from Person Under 18; Procuring/Exercise Control over Person Under 18; Exercise Control over Person Under 18; Advertising Another Person’s Sexual Services; Distribute Child Pornography and Householder Permit Sexual Activity of a Person Under 18 Years. Charges against the Whitby man were later withdrawn.

Terrell OCHRYM faces an additional charge of Possession Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking. Both males were held for a bail hearing.

A Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant was executed by the Peterborough Police Service’s Drug Unit and Emergency Response Team at a Talwood Court address. Three people were arrested and charged:

Angelica Wright, 28, of Brenyon Way, Scarborough, is charged with possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine) and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
