Local company devises unique way to keep ashes of deceased loved ones with you forever

KAWARTHA LAKES- When Robin Spataro retired at 55 she thought she had her life all figured out. It was questions about what would happen to her after she died that lead to her becoming an entrepreneur. “I knew I wanted to be cremated, I just needed to know what I wanted to do with my ashes and I have some concrete buddas in my garden and all of a sudden I thought, I want to be in the garden.”  says Spataro.

And “Together Forever” was born. “I have three sons and I thought this would be a great way they could all have a part of me.”

Together Forever offers people a heartwarming alternative to the traditional urn that holds remains of your loved ones. “Both my parents have been cremated and buried but they are in Scarborough and I don’t get there very often and I was thinking this way they could truly be with me forever.”

She brings the ashes to you, encasing them in a beautiful angel wing mold, put into a keychain or added to a piece of jewellry. “There are four different molds, two are the wings, one is a heart shaped wing and the other is a big crest.” Spataro explains. “We do key chains or keyfobs and we just started jewellry.”  She partnered with another local company called Clear Mind Metals for the jewellry.

Spataro says it’s a very rewarding second career. “It’s so fulfilling and I feel really honoured that they allow me to do it.” she says with a smile. She is reminded of one of her first customers who’s wife had recently passed away. Spataro says she went to his house to pick up the ashes and was also asked to create something for his granddaughter’s ashes. She had passed away at just 13 years old. “We take pride in what we do but I never thought how emotional it could be.”

The business began last April and also includes pet ashes. “I know that people love their pets, bury their pets, cremate their pets, so I figured that was a good way to start.” They’ve parnered with a couple of pet crematoriums, one in Uxbridge and Guelph and recently one in Scarborough as well.”

Prices range from $22 for a key chain up to $275 for a large crest.  They can either pick up the ashes or you can send them by mail to their home office in Nestleton Station.
