OPP Professional Standards Bureau investigating City Police

KAWARTHA LAKES-Kawartha 411 has learned that the OPP professional Standards Bureau is the department that is investigating the Kawartha Lakes Police Service.

On February 7th we learned the Kawartha Lakes Police had asked the OPP to conduct an internal investigation within the police service.

Chief John Hagarty contacted the OPP Commissioner at the end of December to request an investigation into an internal matter within the police service. No other details were released and information surrounding the investigation has been very hard to come by.

The OPP Professional Standards Bureau(PSB) employees investigate internal and external complaints and criminal allegations about OPP officers or civilian employees.

They coordinate and respond to complaints made directly to the Office of the Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD) and conduct independent investigations.

Employees also provide input to other areas of the OPP on related issues, such as professionalism and ethics training, and policy changes.

Professional Standards employees also work directly with the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

No other information has been made available about the investigation.
