Injured councillor back to work

KAWARTHA LAKES-Injured City of Kawartha Lakes Councillor John Pollard is back to work. On Tuesday Pollard attended his first council meeting since an incident in Fenelon Falls in 2017.

Pollard was injured in November after falling from a float at the Fenelon Falls Santa Claus Parade. The councillor was on a float with fellow Councillors Andrew Veale And Pat O’Reilly. All three were standing in the back of a pick-up truck in the parade and waving to the crowd. He is the Ward 8, Lindsay, Councillor.

The truck was one of the first floats in the parade. The vehicle had to come to stop and when it started again Pollard fell backward off of the truck, hitting his head.

Pollard was taken to St Michaels hospital in Toronto and was in intensive care. He suffered a brain bleed and broken vertebrae. He was later transferred to a rehabilitation centre.

The Fenelon Falls Santa Claus Parade Committee says they are reviewing their parade safety procedures for future events and will look into how to prevent such incidents.
