Emergency crews searching for one person after snowmobile goes through the ice

KAWARTHA LAKES-The search for a snowmobiler missing on Sturgeon Lake has been called off for the night.

Emergency crews had been searching for for about five hours for one person after two snowmobiles went through the ice near Bobcaygeon on Saturday night.

Police, fire and paramedics responded to the area of Oak Park Road on Sturgeon Lake at approximately 7pm.

One person was rescued and taken to hospital in serious condition. A second person is missing. City of Kawartha Lakes Firefighters went into the frigid waters searching for the missing snowmobiler. A helicopter was later brought in to comb the shoreline.

The search was called off just before midnight. The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery unit will resume the search on Sunday.
