Councillor Pollard remains in hospital in Toronto

UPDATE: Councillor Pollard has been transferred to a re-hab centre today, December 7th.

KAWARTHA LAKES-Councillor John Pollard is still at St. Michael’s hospital in Toronto recovering from an incident at the Fenelon Falls Santa Claus parade.

Pollard was on a float with fellow Councillors Andrew Veale And Pat O’Reilly. All three were apparently standing in the back of a pick-up truck in the parade and waving to the crowd. The truck was one of the first floats in the parade. The vehicle had to come to stop and when it started again Pollard fell backward off of the truck, hitting his head. The Ward 8 Councillor suffered three broken vertebrae and a brain bleed in the fall. His wife Gwen says they are taking it day by day. “He is stable, scans are taken daily to check the head injury. He is now allowed to sit up but with 3 cracked vertebrae he is in pain.” Gwen told Kawartha 411.

It was hoped Pollard could be transferred to Ross Memorial Hospital on Tuesday but he remains in the trauma centre in Toronto.
