Police suspend search for man missing on Sturgeon Lake


KAWARTHA LAKES- The OPP has suspended the search for a young man missing on Sturgeon Lake.

Police say a canoe with four young adult males from the Toronto area capsized at Hickory Beach early on the morning of October 1st. One occupant swam to shore and banged on a cottage door, waking the residents. The owners called 911.  A second occupant was rescued from the water by OPP officers using a civilian boat. The body of an 18 year old man from North York was recovered on Sunday evening. The OPP’s Underwater Search and Rescue Unit and helicpoter were being used to try and locate the missing man.

All of the men are between the ages of 18 and 22 according to Police. There’s no word on the condition of the man who was resuced.

None were wearing life jackets.
