Three Community Living locations amalgamate


KAWARTHA LAKES-Dr. Helena Jaczek, Minister of Community and Social Services, was in Lindsay today to mark the grand opening of Community Living Trent Highlands which is an amalgamation of the Haliburton County, Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough County chapters.

Community Living provides services and supports for adults with developmental disabilities and their families. for people will be better coordinated by amalgamating functions across three locations: Community Living Kawartha Lakes, Community Living Haliburton County and Community Living Peterborough. “The amalgamation of these three great community living agencies into one entity will provide high quality supports and services for individuals with developmental disabilities. We wish Community Living Trent Highlands great success as they continue to move forward with their mission to inspire respect and equality for people with developmental disabilities by promoting community knowledge, inclusion and individual quality of life.” Dr. Helena Jaczek, Minister of Community and Social Services said.

In 2014-15, Ontario provided Community Living Kawartha Lakes with an investment of $174,500 to conduct a feasibility study to explore integration and collaboration between the three community living agencies.

The three locations will remain open, and amalgamation will happen by coordinating the resources, expertise and leadership at these three facilities. This will help better deliver services to adults with developmental disabilities and their families across this large region. “We are pleased to have the support of the Ontario Government as we bring together resources, expertise, leadership and community development strength to create Community Living Trent Highlands. We are all so excited to launch the new agency created firmly in the foundations offered by the work done in the three communities. This will be a celebration of a vision being realized and a new beginning.” remarked Teresa Jordan, Executive Director, Community Living Trent Highlands.

Community Living Trent Highlands offers a wide range of supports for people with developmental disabilities. This includes connecting people to vital health and social services, and enabling them to stay active and engaged with family, friends and their community through a range of individualized programming.

This funding was part of the Employment and Modernization Fund.
